somethingblue_blogBridesmaids Trends for Fall 2013

Allure Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids’ dresses are trending toward more pastel shades of color.  There were lots of neutrals, coral and aqua.  We are seeing more and more brides choosing a monochromatic color scheme for their maids—for instance, all of the girls wearing varying shades of pink.  It’s a great look—and it still keeps a bit of uniformity in the group.  After all, you want your bridesmaids to look special—not just like any other guest at the wedding.  You chose them to be your maids for a reason—because you have a special relationship with them.  Make sure that they can be identified as your special friends.

Dresses for these special ladies are soft and made of flowing fabric this year.  Lace is huge!  We bought several lace dresses for you to choose from.  Many of the laces are available in a good variety of colors.  You can also change the lining colors which gives you an opportunity to personalize your choices even more.  Our Jasmine lace dresses should be in soon—we can’t wait till we can share them with you.  They will also make great dresses for your rehearsal dinner or a special shower!  Chiffons and bobinett continue to be popular. WToo by Watters has an amazing selection of wear-again bobinett dresses.  Some of them are already here!

Remember that it takes 10-12 weeks to get in your bridesmaid dresses.  We really need to start to put together orders for those of you whose weddings are in the fall.

Prom season is drawing to a close and here at Something BLUE things are calming down a bit.  Now we have time to look back on our trip to the bridal market and share the exciting new trends that are upcoming with you all!

Probably our biggest surprise this year was the number of ball gowns that were offered by all of the various bridal designers.  Here in Texas we have always loved ball gowns, but this year it appears that the entire country will be making the move to bigger, fuller skirts.  We are so excited!  (We bought several—some with lace, some with sparkles, some with lace and sparkles…)

Another trend we saw—and loved—is the move toward more color.  Of course, we have been a fan of blush pink and champagne for bridal gowns ever since we opened, but this season there will be other colors available as well.  Casablanca offered a gown with all-over embroidery in sapphire blue as well as a beautiful lace dress with light blue or blush pink lining.  (You will get to see them at our Casablanca trunk show in July!)  We also ordered a precious petal pink gown from Jasmine Couture—Rebekah is counting the days till it arrives!

Nature loves pink—and there are many shades of pink flowers available for all seasons.  Remember, using in-season blooms is the best way to keep down the size of your florist bill!  Some of our favorites for spring include tulips, Ranunculus, Hyacinth, Peonies and Roses (except during February, when they are at a premium!)

It’s time to think about spring weddings—2014 style!  The trendy color—PINK.  Often that brings us to a little girl look but pink can be for grown-ups, too.  So let’s look at options for an elegant, fun and polished wedding—all in pink.

Your attendants are the most obvious way to bring color to your wedding.  We like the idea of shades of pink for your bridesmaids (maybe because we LOVE ombre…) This bride chose gowns by Bari Jay–the flower detail at the top certainly says “Spring!”
